J-1 Visa: Summer Work Travel Program

Hello!

Welcome to J-1 Visa Consulting, where every week we provide helpful resources for everything J-1 Visa.

In our first post and upcoming weeks, I will review all the 15 different J-1 Visa programs.

Also, check out our Youtube video for additional content!

About The Program

The Summer Work Travel Program allows foreign nationals to work and travel in seasonal and/or temporary jobs during their summer vacation from university for a maximum of four months.

Jobs in this category must have a cultural component that allows foreign nationals to experience American culture.

Common employers in the category are:

    • Restaurants
    • Hotels
    • Resorts
    • Amusement Parks
    • Souvenir Shops
    • Tourist Attractions

Eligibility

Applicants must:

    • Be proficient in English
    • Be enrolled full-time in a post-secondary university outside of the U.S.
    • Have completed at least one semester of post-secondary education outside of the U.S.
    • Have received a job offer from a U.S. company (unless from a visa waiver country)

If you need proof of English proficiency, we would recommend TEFL (one of the most widely accepted exams worldwide.)

Additional Information

Program dates vary by country, but students must have program dates within their academic calendar break. You must secure your housing before you arrive in the U.S. (Most sponsors help with this). The better your English, the better job opportunities you will have.
